Terms of Service

Welcome to Lunch Special (the "Service"), a free daily word game where you guess the diner's "Special." By playing the game (on the web or as a Discord Activity) you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please don't use the Service.

1. The Service

Lunch Special is a free game provided for personal entertainment. It does not require an account. We may add, change, or remove features, puzzles, or content at any time, and we may suspend or discontinue the Service without notice.

2. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
Attempt to disrupt, overload, attack, or gain unauthorized access to the Service, its servers, or its data.
Use automated means to scrape, harvest, or overload the game or its API beyond ordinary play.
Reverse-engineer or interfere with the Service in a way intended to harm it or other players.

3. Intellectual property

The Lunch Special name, game design, puzzles, text, and artwork are owned by the game's operator or used with permission, and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Certain fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License, and some placeholder artwork is AI-generated. You are welcome to share your daily results (for example, the emoji score grid). Otherwise, you may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from the Service's content without permission.

4. Third-party platforms

Lunch Special can be launched inside Discord as a Discord Activity. When you access the Service through Discord, you are also subject to Discord's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for Discord's platform, and Discord is not responsible for the Service.

5. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that puzzle content will be accurate or complete.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of Lunch Special will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.

7. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how the game handles information. In short, you play anonymously and we do not collect information that identifies you.

8. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
